From prototype to production

- Evaluation: a fixed test set built from real cases, scored before every release, so quality does not drift unnoticed.
- Guardrails: input and output checks, permissions, filters for sensitive data and clear behaviour when the model is unsure.
- Monitoring: logging of prompts and outputs, cost per task, latency and user feedback, with alerts when something changes.

Generative AI and the EU AI Act
The EU AI Act affects generative AI on two levels. Providers of general-purpose AI models, such as the companies behind large language models, have had their own obligations since August 2025. Companies that build applications on top of these models have to consider the transparency duties in Article 50, which apply since 2 August 2026: users must know when they are interacting with AI, and synthetic content must be marked.
If a generative AI system is used in a high-risk area such as hiring or credit, the high-risk requirements apply from 2 December 2027. We check the classification at the start of each project and build the documentation and logging in from the beginning.
